“We may define therapy as a search for value.”
~Abraham Maslow
The time and money spent on therapy both need to be respected and addressed with appropriate concern by the therapist. Many people who consider therapy are concerned about the potential time and monetary investment that allows for the possibility of getting indefinitely "stuck" in therapy. The length of therapy will vary based on a client's preference and situation, but I try to advocate quality over quantity with the idea of fewer but longer sessions with many of the clients that I serve. Ultimately, the scope of therapy is contingent upon the client's own needs and preferences. With something such as premarital counseling there is often a three session progression while with other situations, such as a couple recovering from infidelity, the series of sessions are likely to be much more complex depending on the full context of the situation. What arrangement works best for a given client will be discussed and determined during the initial session. Furthermore, the progression of therapy is reassessed with the client at the completion of each session. To act in the best interest of the client(s) I try to offer a diversity of scheduling and pricing options that allow clients to determine what works best for them. This also includes more non-traditional options such as online/internet therapy and phone therapy.
